Insulated ceilings can save up to 45% of the energy bill and there are even more big savings to be gained with insulated walls which can impact energy consumption by another 25% when heating or cooling. Another bonus is reduced noise from the outside. Rock wool is a good insulating material as it contains no chemicals and has top-of-the-range insulating properties if the right thickness is used for various and specific applications. Any insulation installed in ceilings should carry at least the R 2.5 rating and for walls, at least a rating of R 1.5 They must comply with the Australian standards, AS 2627.1 Compliance with standards of the country where the insulation is installed is important due to specific climate and fire ratings.

Example: Heating or cooling capacity is calculated at 150 W per square meter in an average home or light occupied business with a ceiling height of 2.2 m Up to 150 Wh/m2 of power can be saved with insulated ceilings. E.g. Heating electrically a floor area of 100 square meters for a period of 3 months. The example is showing the extra cost of heating if additional insulation is employed.
